Medical Coding at Highland Community College

The Medical Coding class is approximately 20 weeks long (a little longer than a normal Highland semester) and usually meets on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  It is offered in the Fall and Spring semesters. The certification test is administered on a Saturday following the last class—on the Highland campus!

Kim Ramirez—a Certified Medical Coding Instructor, Certified Professional Coder, and Master Professional Coder—teaches the class. Her number is 815-626-5245.

Prerequisites for the class are:

·         Anatomy and Physiology Foundations (5 cr.)

-or-

·         Anatomy for Information Technology (3 cr.)

·         Medical Terminology (3 cr.)

Registration information for the class is as follows:

ITHC 201N    Medical Coding        8 credits

The cost of the 8-credit coding class is approximately $1380 (includes books, CPC test fee, and membership fee in AAPC). There is also a small technology fee that every Highland student pays.
